Sylphyo vs the whole market.
Roland, Yamaha, Akai, Emeo, Berglund, Robkoo, Odisei, Artinoise, ASM. Every electronic wind instrument you can actually buy in August 2026, with the price, the weight, the battery, the fingerings and the stock status side by side. Two ranges have officially stopped, three more are out of stock. We sell one of these, so the two most useful sections are where we lose and where we win.
Every figure here has a source, and the gaps are left visible.
We checked prices at Thomann and Woodbrass, specifications on the manufacturers own pages, and stock status on 23 August 2026. Where a maker does not publish a figure, the cell is empty rather than filled with a guess. Where two sources disagree, we kept the manufacturer.
We sell one of the instruments in this table, so read it with that in mind. The two sections at the end are the ones worth your time: where we lose, and where we win.

The Roland product page files it under Discontinued. Support and downloads stay online.
Yamaha WX5
The Yamaha USA page says WX5 Discontinued in as many words. Second hand only.
Akai EWI5000, EWI USB, EWI4000s
No official statement for the EWI5000, but the EWI USB and EWI4000s pages return a 404 and no Akai wind instrument has been announced since August 2020.
Robkoo R1
Sold out everywhere and no firmware since February 2024, while the maker pushes its new Clarii range. No statement either way.
Out of stock is not the same as discontinued, and we do not treat it as such. Three instruments are simply unavailable today: the Robkoo Clarii PRO, the Robkoo R1 and the Yamaha YDS-120 at Woodbrass.
Six honest losses.
No speaker. Headphones or an amp are not optional on a Sylphyo. Almost every Roland, both Yamahas, the EWI Solo, the Clarii and the Diosynth make sound on their own. For a beginner playing at home, that matters.
Wireless costs extra. Our radio link is a separate box, the Link. The Robkoo Clarii PRO and the ASM Diosynth have Bluetooth audio and MIDI built in, and every Roland since the AE-20 has both.
No DIN MIDI. USB only. The Diosynth has DIN in and out, the Berglund NuRAD has DIN plus CV. If your rig is hardware, that is a real gap.
Battery. Six hours. The Brisa does nine, the Clarii PRO eight, a Warbl over ten, a NuRAD on lithium fifteen.
We are not on the shelf. Thomann lists Yamaha, Roland, Akai, Emeo, Odisei, ASM, Artinoise and Hornberg in its wind controller aisle. Not us. If you want to hold one before buying, that is harder with us than with anyone else here.
Almost no public reviews. Four reviews on Audiofanzine, one of them harsh, against forty six for the YDS-150. After a liquidation and a buy back we are asking you to trust a company with a thin public record. That is a fair thing to hold against us.
Four wins that no amount of marketing can move.
Weight. 395 g. The next lightest complete instrument is the Roland Brisa at 437 g, then the Travel Sax 2 at 450 g. The Clarii PRO is 650 g, the NuRAD 635 g, the AE-20 1110 g, the Emeo 1700 g. Play standing for two hours and this stops being a specification.
Fingerings. Eighteen systems supplied as standard, including an EWI mode, recorder, saxophone, flute and clarinet. Roland offers seven, Berglund five, Akai six, Yamaha one, the Clarii PRO one. Whatever you already play, your hands keep working.
Length. 43 cm. It fits in a rucksack. The Brisa is 75 cm, the YDS-150 70 cm, the Diosynth 70 cm.
Made and repaired in France. Wasquehal, by the people who assembled it, at published flat rates. Roland, Yamaha, Emeo and ASM do not disclose where theirs are made, and repairs go through a retailer network.

If you want the biggest sound library, buy a Roland. If you want a real saxophone key mechanism under your fingers, buy an Emeo. If you want a synthesiser that happens to be blown, buy the ASM Diosynth. If you want the cheapest way to find out whether you like this at all, buy an Artinoise re.corder for the price of a dinner.
The Sylphyo is for the player who already has fingerings in their hands, who plays standing, who carries the instrument, and who wants the workshop that built it to still be answering in five years.
Three of the instruments on this table are officially discontinued, three more are out of stock with no restock date, and one has a waiting list longer than two years. That is the state of this market. Ask the same question of every maker here, including us: who is still going to be shipping updates in 2031.
